Je wordt alleen ingeknipt wanneer dit noodzakelijk is voor de baby of wanneer je dreigt te ver in te scheuren.

Als daar de tijd en ruimte voor is, worden eerst de spieren en de huid verdoofd. Dan wordt er, terwijl je heel hard perst, een knip gezet. Dit kan ook zonder verdoving tijdens een wee. Het perineum (stukje tussen de vagina en anus) staat dan zo onder spanning dat het gevoelloos is.
